We have checked our records, and we are not (thank goodness) in need of any recall activity. None of our vaccines for the flu were included on the recall. The recall is only due to a decrease in expected potency, not at all with any safety issues.
Since our seasonal flu vaccine availablity is erratic due to shipping, manufacturing, and government decisions (which are all outside our control,) we have posted a list of clinics with flu availability. We will still keep you posted about our office supply as we are updated.Flu clinics as of oct 2009 click here.
We have been asked repeatedly for when we will get the H1N1 vaccine and the fact is we don’t know. We have ordered the vaccine and are eagerly awaiting the shipment to us. We are in contact with the VFC government program and we will announce it here when it arrives. You can call our main number any time and press option 6. This will give you the latest information on our H1N1 vaccine status and we will update it when the vaccine arrives.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued guidance to help decrease the spread of flu among students and school staff during the 2009-2010 school year. The recommendations include separating ill students and staff, early treatment for high-risk individuals, and routine cleaning of the school environment. Furthermore, the CDC states that the decision to dismiss students should be made locally and should balance the goal of reducing the number of people who become seriously ill or die from influenza with the goal of minimizing social disruption and safety risks to children sometimes associated with school dismissal. It should be noted that this guidance is designed for K-12 schools. Pre-kindergarten, early childhood, college and university guidance will be forthcoming. For complete guidance on K-12 school response to H1N1 flu, ….. visit the CDC Web site.
The Center for Disease Control has released the list (here) of who should get the swine flu vaccine if it is available this year. In addition, these same people should get the regular flu shot as well. If you want to be notified when the vaccine is available, sign up for our developmental newsletter at www.kiddoc.com/news.php . Even if your child is older than 3 and you don’t get the weekly updates, you will be entered in our communication database.
